Club History

In 1948 the maintenance workers at Becontree Council decided to found an angling club, taking the 'Bec' from Becontree and the 'main' from maintenance they decided to name it Becmain Angling Society.

Tom Coster, Reg Smith and Len Howard were the founding members, the first water they acquired was Valence Moat which was previously known as The Dagenham Lake and owned by Becontree Council.

In the early days a membership would cost 30 shillings and applicants were required to attend three outings before membership would be granted. The club grew fast and soon formed a large waiting list.

Today the club incorporates over 100 members and includes many activities such as weekly social nights, quiz nights, darts matches, bowling, Christmas parties and of course, match fishing events. Our members are also invited to help with working parties and lake nettings.
